Sweet heart brooch
Looking at the brooch here there are two clues to why a sweet heart brooch one fairly obvious, the wishbone for luck the other a swallow. Meaning I will return, as swallows return from their migration every summer.
These sweetheart items of jewellery became popular, around the WWI when soldiers and sailors would buy these items for their fiance, girlfriend and wives as a love token to remember them buy whilst away fighting.
Often with the swallow on and good luck symbols and anchor etc got hope and stability, much jewellery around the Victorian and Edwardian period had several hidden meaning of either love, religion or friendship.
