Hollow ware in antique sterling silver
As opposed to flatware which are items that are laid flat on a table like cutlery and serving items.
Hollow ware are items of silver such as jugs, and tea pots items that will hold and contain liquids etc.
Normally hollow ware will appertain to a use able items for pouring or storing food, liquid or sugar etc, as opposed to a vase or fluted item.
One thing to watch out for on hollow ware items is later embossing the Victorians were very keen on adding floral decoration to what were originally plain items in particular from the Georgian period which covered the previous 140 years, and tended to be plain items.
