French Empire period 1804 to 181 , these candlestick with inspiration from the classical grand tour, personally the classical style understated and restrained yet with hints of the over the top hence the classical cast silver cameos.
Unusual as the whole items are solid cast silver with no casing or filling, meaning there are heavy gauge cast sheet silver weighing in at over 1 kilo or 2.2lbs.
Each part marked and really amazing quality with ionic capital tops that predate the popularised by the Victorians Corinthian column.
Funny one of our period decorative dealers who traded with the best in the 1980s and 1990 has valued them at £6000 and a local country auctioneer £2000 to £2500 estimate, and we all know what an auctioneers estimate means, seems like a great buy, not my area of expertise, however I do know a good lot when I see one.
