Antiques are hard to find? Antique shops even harder!
Yesterday we had the dubious pleasure of a 487 miles round trip to help my aunt. What this do with antiques you cry?.
A bi-annual trip into the countryside, where as any self respecting antiques dealer, car laden with presents, kids and dogs for family Christmas of course stops at every antiques shop. In 3 towns all the antiques shops had closed one now yet another Turkish Barber, must be the new buzz industry. Funny enough my barber closed, I digress.
Like mushrooms these shops pop up and disappear as quickly, now we have had as per normal a very busy December, but it has been a tough year. But we have kept investing and kept pushing Top Banana Antiques forward. New staff staff, new paint, new windows, solar panels, we are still looking forward to the next 21 years. 46 years in the antiques business and still find it the most exhilarating challenge if not addiction.
As some areas shrink we get stronger, and unlike so many antique centres or shops, and all the ones yesterday have fallen into this trap, (and nothing brought even though keen and pocket full of cash to spend) we sell proper antiques, yes we have some vintage, but real vintage not repro or the same old generic and ubiquitous galvanised tubs and washed of pine tables, maybe with some overpriced plated cutlery too boot.
We sell antiques and value and if junk super cheap hence our £5 room and genuine bargains, as well as proper antiques range today £14,000 to £2. Recently a mum and daughter both regulars came in, and mum has deep pockets and buys presents through to serious antiques, daughter has start up money and both were able to fill most of the present list and dress up daughter new flat too. We aim to have something for the teenage girl or boy, coins costume jewellery etc through to serious pottery and glass and everything in between and weather a multi multi or pocket money you will be treated the same.
